Poster of the Giraffe from ARTIS
Poster with a print of the Giraffe in ARTIS. Illustrated by illustrator Annemieke Bunjes, known for the signage in ARTIS. The poster is printed on Tintoretto paper.
Despite the camouflage patches in their fur, giraffes are not always safe from predators. But they know how to defend themselves, because they can kick quite hard with their front legs. They prefer to do this when they have to protect young animals, because older animals are usually not easily attacked. Anyone who has the chance to see giraffes up close can easily distinguish the females from the males. They are slightly smaller and have thin horns with tufts of hair. The males, on the other hand, have thick horns without hair at the tips.
