Lions are the only felines that live in groups. A pride usually consists of five to ten adult lionesses and a lion as harem leader. The lionesses with their sisters, daughters and sometimes granddaughters form the core of the group. The dominant female, usually an older lioness, has an influential position over the male members of the group. Often the lionesses hunt alone, working together when they want to catch large prey. Then the entire pride eats the prey.
