The Asian elephant lives on the edge of forests in India and Southeast Asia and lives about 70 years. It eats only plant foods such as grass, bamboo, roots, bark, wood, fruits and leaves. Asian elephants are in danger of extinction. this is mainly due to humans: who not only hunt and poach, they have also ensured that the elephants' habitat is becoming smaller and more fragmented. As a result, the elephants come closer to humans and destroy the crops. Farmers revolt against this and kill elephants. ARTIS helps Awely, a French organization that works for the Asian elephant and, together with the local population, tries to ensure that people and animals can leave each other alone.
